History:
Originally built as a manor in the late 1850s and 1940 became a maternity ward and woman’s home for the Salvation Army. In later years the building was used as both a children’s home then finally a care home which was forced to close in 2015 due to terrible conditions. A newspaper headline stated the closure was due to ‘dirty conditions’ and ‘overpowering smells of urine’, the two brothers who owned the carehome were fined over £80,000 for the unsafe conditions. Apparently John Lennons mother was housed here in the 1940s and gave birth to his half sister.
