History
Pilkington Brothers was founded in 1826 by William Pilkington in St Helens, which was then a part of Lancashire, England. Initially, the company started as a family-owned glass manufacturer.
Over the years, Pilkington became known for its innovations in glassmaking technology. In 1952, they introduced the revolutionary float glass process, which allowed for the mass production of high-quality flat glass. This innovation transformed the glass industry worldwide.
Despite its global expansion, Pilkington maintained its headquarters in St Helens. The headquarters served as the nerve center for the company’s operations, housing administrative offices, research laboratories, and manufacturing facilities.
